"Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get." -- Forrest Gump
Eep! Please don't kill me! I know this is taken months a lot longer that I thought it would. But life gets in the way. On a positive note, I got in to the Honors college at UTC and ended up with a full ride! On the down side, I thought that my spring break would be free for writing, but I ended up with a ten page paper on Invisible Man instead. So I haven't had much time to work on the chapter.
Then I have prom on April 2nd, so that weekend is shot, and this coming weekend I have to take my best friend dress shopping and find a way to get a tan. Ain't life grand?
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I am not, in fact, dead, and I am attempting to write in all of my spare moments. I won't say when to expect an update, because I truly have no idea. But in the mean time, I really suggest reading the story Give Me A Purpose (link in side bar). Stacey is a really good writer for not being very far into her story, and I highly recommend it. It inspired me today, in fact.
Also, an excerpt from Chapter Four:
“So what, you went home for the summer and magically changed into a respectable person that actually likes me? And that I would actually date? Come on, Potter. You know as well as I do that that is completely impossible."Thanks for being patient guys!
EDIT: Raindrops got recommended on Jules's rec blog: Handless Reading Corner. My life is complete. (:
EDIT EDIT: Loving [this].
Love Always,
Kayla
No problem. It really wasn't that long of a wait anyways. Love the excerpt!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rebecca! I really do plan on becoming SuperWriter as soon as I finish this paper. I am literally bursting at the seams with inspiration right now. (:
ReplyDeleteis that your dress? It's really pretty
ReplyDeleteIt is! Only mine is charcoal grey. Thank you! (:
ReplyDeleteYay! It's great to have you back! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on UTC - and with a full ride!
Your prom dress looks really pretty, and I hope you have a fabulous time. :)
As for the excerpt - I love it! Reminds me a little of typical L/J fics - James' transformation over the summer, but at the same time seems a little parody-ish (?)
Whatever it is, it will be brilliant coming from you, but don't rush the update, just live first, and have fun! :D
Sorry for the length!
I have a feeling it's not Lily talking in the excerpt. Maybe I've been hanging over at It Ate My Hand for too long, her excerpts are usually misleading.
ReplyDeleteCongrats with UTC, take your time with the chapter and have fun :)
AJ--Thanks!! (:
ReplyDeleteAnd 332--Sadly, I am not nearly as mysterious as Jules and this excerpt should be taken at face value. I'll be sure to post a must more ambiguous one next time. XD
Kayla, haha, fair enough, but knowing that it actually is Lily makes me more excited. I really love the relationship between your Lily and James , usually at this point they are just always yelling at each other and arguing but yours can actually talk, even if its not for long.
ReplyDelete-332
Oh my gosh, I get so upset reading fics where Lily just yells all the time. It makes it so hard to believe that James actually likes her.
ReplyDeleteAlso, thank you! I'm really glad that you like them. (:
Don't worry about the update-though the excerpt is great! Enjoy prom/vacation... I have some quotes for you!
ReplyDeleteIt takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.
Kisses are a better fate than wisdom.

Awww, I like them Ivy!! I need to add them to my collection. I'm thinking about doing another quotes post just because I adore quotes so f*cking much. (:
ReplyDeleteHow about this one: A friend is someone who knows everything about you – every dark, horrible secret – and loves you just the same.
ReplyDelete~Alice
Yes, I love that one! It reminds me of the Marauders. (:
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which....
Today is James Potter's birthday.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow was Prom?
ReplyDeleteI had a really good time! My date and I were the most attractive couple there. ;)
ReplyDeleteHaha, kidding, of course. But it was great! Thanks for asking!
I'm working on the chapter now. I'll post an excerpt in a bit. :D
Hi Kayla, I have a question. Is it in the books that Snape called Lily a Mudblood? And if it is, when did it happen? (5th or 6th year)
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Yes, it is in the books. Order of the Phoenix, pg. 648 if you have the American version. In chapter 28 Regardless.
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you mean which year for them, it happened in Snape and Lily's fifth year right after they take OWLs. (:
Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think people have a problem with sharing happiness. But I read this book, and if you haven't read it, if you ever have time, I really suggest it. Tuesdays With Morrie by Mitch Albom-true story about a dying man teaching a young man how to live. He has great quotes and he practically makes me cry because he was such a sweet old man.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, sorry for raping your site with continuous posts of quotes :)
-ivyflighislistening
Learn how to live and you'll know how to die; learn how to die, and you'll know how to live.
The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in.
Dying is only one thing to be sad over... Living unhappily is something else.
Love one another or die.
-Morrie Schwartz
He's an incredibly inspiring martyr. Thought I'd let you know.
Tuesdays with Morrie is a very good book. I cry every time I read it.
ReplyDeleteKayla, you may have already answered this, but will this version of Raindrops have pretty much the same plot as the original or will you be changing and adding things?
ReplyDeleteand in an attempt to keep things relevant, a few quotes I love are:
'Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are' - Kurt Cobain
'Forever trust in who you are, nothing else matters'
'Look famous, be legendary, appear complex, act simple, radiate presence, travel light, seem a dream, prove real'
'nobody ever does live happily ever after, but we leave the children to find that out for themselves.' - stephen king
'all people dream, but not equally. those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their mind wake in the morning to find that it was vanity. but the dreamers of the day are dangerous people, for they dream their dreams with open eyes, and make them come true.'
'Look famous, be legendary, appear complex, act simple, radiate presence, travel light, seem a dream, prove real.'
ReplyDelete^^Love that. (:
Also, yes, it is essentially the original story. Constance and Stella are the same, Greg is in it still, but more heavily involved, ca lot of the major events are the same, but the new version has a lot more to it. More characters, more plot, just more.
As for the update, I've gotten 5,000 words in about 6 different times before scratching everything and starting over. I'm just not happy with how they are coming out. I think I might have it this time though, but I won't be able to really work on it until tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to finish.
Just for fun, these are the first lines of every version that I've decided not to use:
A loud thump woke James with a start.
He sat atop the Astronomy Tower, lit cigarette glowing faintly in the starlight.
It was really beginning to tear her up.
"It's not true!"
It had been a very (very, very) bad start to a very (very, very) horrible day, and it was only going to get worse.
I am beyond excited for the chapter! Take your time, we'll still be here.
ReplyDeletedo you know an approximate date for the update? just wondering :)
ReplyDeleteGah. I know this ain't regarding this story, but I figured the odds for you reading this is better than any other place: Could you please, and I mean please, update "Secondhand Wings" bloody soon?
